Learning About Video Recording!

There’s a few reasons I decided to try turning my board game room into a pop-up video studio. One of them being a re-telling of theĀ Legacy of Dragonholt game I’m going to start soon. I posted a poll to Twitter asking how people would like to consume that media, and video won! When video started winning I started kicking myself for even having it as an option, but now I’m excited for the challenge!

I had tested the audio and video abilities of my phone already. The video was good. The audio not so much. Last night I pulled the mic I use for podcast recording down to see if it would sound better. It did! Hooray! One challenge defeated.

Next was the lighting… This is probably my weakest link since I haven’t really needed to worry about lighting before. The boyfriend had a few light umbrellas that he was using for photo taking so I confiscated them to see what I could figure out. I did a test video, not using separate audio, the camera angle was off, but the lighting seemed to be okay. Here’s how that came out. Judge this unedited and ridiculous video as you will! I’m also in my pajamas and not wearing my glasses, so there’s that!

I was, overall pleased with how the video came out. There was a bit of a shadow that I’ll be fixing before actual recording begins, and the wall behind me will be all board games so there will be no piece of art to collect glare!

I’ve been really enjoying learning about all of this. I have a feeling the first few videos will be slightly unpolished, but I’m hoping I can learn a few things about video transitions and other effects to make the intros and outros decent… We’ll see!
